Our band is composed entirely of fire service personnel. Almost all are shift firefighters with area fire departments. This does make scheduling performances difficult at times, as some of the band is always at work. However, we manage to get through all our performances with very few hiccups.
We are a non-competing band. We perform for our own enjoyment, and as needed for various ceremonies within the fire department structure. Funerals, weddings, graduations, and monument openings are examples of the band's main duties.
We are self sufficient, financially. The band supplies its members with uniforms and, as often as possible, helps out with travel expenses. To remain self sufficient, we also take other performances, like street parades, Burns Suppers, and the like. We also remain very busy throughout the St. Patrick's Day season.
We are the official band for Fire Department Instructors' Conference which is held in Indianapolis. This is one of our favorite times of year, as we meet thousands of our brother and sister firefighters from throughout the country, including pipers and drummers
